About Pukka Pies

The Company

Further to our introduction on the home page Pukka Pies was founded in Leicester in 1963 as a one man concern by Trevor Storer (now chairman).

The business grew distributing first to the Midlands, then nationwide and finally exporting into Europe in the early 70's. We now serve the UK, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Malta, Gibraltar and France with a network of National and European distributors along with our own multi-drop delivery vehicles in the Midlands.

 

Pukka Pies founding principle was to make superior quality pies and pasties only using the finest of ingredients with highly trained and caring staff.

Couple this with being fair, reasonable and thoughtful with customers, staff and suppliers alike whilst energetically developing the business with excellent service and good imaginative marketing.

 

The Product and Service


 

Puuka Pies VanThe character of the Pukka Pie is a full succulent filling in a light puff pastry. The steak and kidney pies contain large chunks of tender steak, and the chicken and mushroom pies contain large pieces of succulent chicken with sliced mushrooms.

  • Pies are single portion and available: medium or large; frozen baked (wrapped or unwrapped); chilled (if within our own direct distribution - approx 90 mile radius of Leicester) or frozen unbaked.
  • Pukka Pies are consistent - the product is always the same, every time the customer opens the box - the same.
  • People genuinely enjoy eating Pukka Pies and most importantly of all come back to buy again and again.

There is a complete support package for retail outlets selling the Pukka range of products:

  • Point of sale material - posters, open and closed signs, banners and outside signs, all available free of charge to trade customers.
  • Sample packs - to potential new trade customers not presently selling our pies.
  • Technical back up - from heating instructions to nutritional values - simply contact us and we will help you.

The Ingredients

  • Tremendous care is taken to select the highest quality ingredients and packaging for Pukka Pies. We audit our own suppliers, we carry out either site visits and/or rely on independent inspection accreditation, whichever is appropriate.
  • Suppliers sign and agree to conform to Pukka Pies demanding specifications.
  • Ingredients and packaging are checked against specification and each supplier's performance is carefully monitored. We apply stringent control and care to these operations.
  • We only use young Bullock Beef cut from the forequarter in our beef pie and pasty ranges, all from EC approved plants. Beef is trimmed and inspected on site by our own highly trained butchers.
  • All our products are free from hydrogenated fat. We ensure that the salt content is carefully controlled to be below the Government maximum guidelines per 100g for meat pies, pasties, and puddings. However, our sausage and sausage roll products are above the government guidelines on salt at present.
  • Our entire range of products is free from artificial flavourings and preservatives.
  • Pukka Pies policy is not to use genetically modified ingredients in any of its products.
